was watching oprah again today during lunch. and she was reporting on the people who had suffered during the tsunami and hurrican katrina and how they had to rebuild their life again from scratch. and i realised that the littlest things count.
like this american decorator, nate berkus, apparently quite famous and rich, he was in ths tsunami. and his best friend, his photographer died in this tsunami, because he couldn't grip onto nate's shirt tight enough. and when nate reached the top of the hill where he stood in safety, he saw this old man he had met on the beach with his grandson the day before. and this old man, just lost his grandson. they brought his body to the morgue of the hospital that nate got airlifted too. and it was just painful to watch, and when nate was given a shirt and flip flops, he broke down and cried. and what Oprah said was true, 'someone took their shirt off their back for him.' to be selfless in a time like that, what great kindness.
somehow, i feel like i've been missing out on the bigger things in life. my head's been in the sand, thinking about college and grades, when i'm missing the smallest bit of kindness that can be mean so much to someone out there. there can be so many people in the world, yet so little care and concern. i know now, that it's not the grades that make a person, but their characters, and how they will give all for their friends, and people they don't even know. that's what shows who they really really are.
'what do you want to be when you grow up?''i want to be the one that delivers flowers to people.''why?''have you seen someone receive flowers without smiling? imagine a job where you'll be able to bring a smile to someone else's face everyday!'simplicity.
